Loewy’s Home

11

Jakarta boutique hotels, you said? Loewy’s Home is exactly what you’re looking for. Located in the Tanjung Duren neighborhood of Jakarta Barat, we loved every single thing about this hotel. First, the location was superb. We had easy access to the city’s main attractions, and more importantly, a fantastic variety of food options. Not only that, we also loved the abundance of street food available nearby.

We stayed in the York Room, which felt like a mini-apartment. The space was quite spacious, featuring a comfortable seating area where we could unwind as well as a lovely private balcony. For families, the Jade Room seems like a great choice, as it includes a separate living area and even bigger space.

One of the standout features of Loewy’s Home was definitely the rooftop pool. It wasn’t only a refreshing spot to cool off, but the views were breathtaking. We especially loved watching the sunset from there; the vibrant orange sky was stunning and made for some memorable photos. Breakfast was another highlight of our stay. They served a delicious Asian breakfast, and we particularly enjoyed the spicy chicken.

Kosenda Hotel

10

Kosenda Hotel sure knows how to impress. When we first arrived at the hotel, we were surprised by its unique blend of design elements. The interior beautifully combines contemporary Scandinavian design with Javanese aesthetics. We also loved the herringbone-patterned floor in the lobby.

We spent our nights in the Deluxe Queen Room, which was just as impressive. At this hotel, all rooms come with designer toiletries and first-class goose-down bedding. We slept like babies! We also loved having a minibar along with coffee makers at our disposal. The working area was a lovely addition, too.

Another highlight was the hotel’s common areas. The rooftop lounge, filled with plants, is a must-visit. We loved taking in the fantastic view of the city center, especially in the evening. There’s also a cafe where you can have a coffee break.

Morrissey Hotel

9

Jakarta’s Menteng district is filled with tons of hotels, including the Morrisey Hotel. Like other hotels in the area, it gave us easy access to popular spots like the National Museum and National Monument. Even better, we were able to walk to Taman Menteng in just 15 minutes.

So, what’s special about this boutique hotel? In our view, it’s its unique combination of boutique charm and serviced apartment convenience. The rooms are remarkably spacious, and the chic decor throughout the hotel creates a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. The fact that each suite, from the studios to the deluxe two-bedroom apartments, comes with a kitchenette is also a huge plus.

However, our favorite spot in the entire hotel has to be the rooftop. The restaurant, lounge, and pool area up there are simply amazing, providing stunning views of the city skyline. It’s the ideal place to enjoy Jakarta’s atmosphere. We also took advantage of the gym during our stay, which was well-equipped.

Lamandau House

8

We really enjoyed our stay at Lamandau House in South Jakarta. For us, the location was great. We found ourselves ideally positioned to explore the city. Gandaria City, Senayan City, and Blok M Mall were all just a short distance away. We also appreciated being close to traditional markets like Pasar Mayestik and Pasar Burung Taman Puring, which provided a glimpse into local life.

What truly distinguished Lamandau House for us was the unique character of each room. Our Studio was bright and airy, and we were greeted with complimentary coffee, tea, and a fruit basket! The bathroom was a standout feature, with its designer brass fittings and custom lighting. We also loved the Sensatia Botanicals bath products, which made our stay feel more luxurious.

Having reliable Wi-Fi was crucial for us, and we were glad the hotel delivered. On top of that, we were also thankful for the 24-hour front desk, which was always ready to assist. Plus, the availability of an airport shuttle service was incredibly handy.

The Dharmawangsa Jakarta

7

Best Luxury. The Dharmawangsa Jakarta is a gem in the Kebayoran Baru neighborhood that screams elegance. This luxurious hotel provided us with a much-needed escape from the craziness of Jakarta. While situated in a quieter area, we were still close to key spots like Lippo Mall and the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Eager to experience the best it had to offer, we chose the Dharmawangsa Suite. It was absolutely worth it. The suite was incredibly spacious, boasting not one, but two private balconies. Meanwhile, the large separate living area gave us plenty of room to spread out and unwind. We also loved the Indonesian decor throughout the room.

While you’re here, don’t forget to have a peaceful retreat in the lush gardens. To beat the heat, you can take a dip in the indoor or outdoor swimming pool. For those seeking ultimate relaxation, enjoy the life-changing spa treatments. If you want to stay active, the fitness center, with its garden views, is a great option, as are the tennis and racquetball courts.

ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta

6

Best Artsy. J town’s boutique hotels are cool, but ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta takes things to another level. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this 3-star hotel, but what caught us off guard was the stunning use of murals. Instead of being mere decorations, they were integral to the hotel’s identity. You’ll find them even in your room!

Speaking of which, we booked Studio 40, and it was everything we imagined. Our first impression was it felt like a studio apartment. Everything felt right, and the addition of creative murals made it even more homey. We loved how there was a separate living area where we could enjoy the street food we bought near the hotel and plan our trip.

During our stay, we also utilized the bike rental to explore the surrounding area. If you’re planning to go a bit far, Gambir train station is nearby. But if you don’t feel like going out, go to the rooftop bar to have a drink!

The Gunawarman

5

Those looking for luxurious boutique hotels in Jakarta should check out The Gunawarman. Situated in the Senopati neighborhood, this hotel has a stellar reputation. Every space here is filled with energy, particularly the lobby, which features Donald Robertson’s artworks. We also discovered that the lobby lounge serves some of the best cocktails in the city.

Every rooms and suites are beautifully decorated, but we chose the Sofia Suite since it looked the prettiest. The English-style decor, dominated by crisp white tones, created a calm and luxurious ambiance. It was even bigger than we expected and equipped with everything we needed.

If you decide to spend your nights here, make sure to check out the upscale on-site restaurant. It also boasts a charming French-inspired bakery as well as a fitness center so you can stay in shape.

Hotel Monopoli

4

Best for Partying. Say hello to Hotel Monopoli, South Jakarta’s coolest kid on the block. This hotel has been gaining massive attention, and it truly lived up to our expectations. It’s ideally located in Kemang, a hip neighborhood. This makes it a fantastic choice for a weekend getaway or, like us, a place to dive into Jakarta’s nightlife while still enjoying a touch of five-star luxury.

We booked the Junior Suite, and it really impressed us. The mezzanine layout was a standout feature, offering a bright and airy living area with some great city views. Climbing up to the sleeping area, we found the bed incredibly cozy and comfortable. The room itself, like all the others, came equipped with all the essentials: Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, a minibar, and a safe.

For those looking to stay active, there’s a gym and outdoor pool available on the property. Additionally, there’s a vibrant cocktail bar, too. However, the highlight for us was the rooftop lounge, The Moon. It often hosts parties and events, making it the perfect place for those who want to dance all night long.

Posto Dormire Sudirman

3

Best Location. Among the best Jakarta boutique hotels, Posto Dormire Sudirman is a standout. One of the main reasons why we recommend this hotel is because of its location. Situated in Sudirman, it offered us easy access to places like Gelora Bung Karno and the Jakarta Convention Center, which was a significant advantage for our trip. Plus, parking here is free!

For our stay, we decided to book the mezzanine-style Superior King Room. It was airy and cozy. We loved how comfortable the bed was, and the living area was our favorite spot for quick naps. The view of the city from our room was also an added bonus.

Of course, Posto Dormire also made sure we were pampered outside of our room. In the evening, we would work up a sweat in the fitness center, followed by a quick sauna session. Then, we would dine at the rooftop restaurant while admiring the view.

La Boheme, Rooms and Coffee

2

The La Boheme, Rooms, and Coffee is an ideal urban getaway in Central Jakarta. First of all, the location is fantastic, as it’s situated right between the National Monument, Grand Indonesia Mall, and the Cathedral, making it super to explore the city.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with beautiful bohemian decor and friendly staff. It was a contrast from the busy streets of Jakarta. We chose the Junior Suite, and it was a great decision. The highlight was our private terrace. It was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy your morning coffee.

If you decide to stay here, make sure to check out the on-site coffee shop. We loved having access to artisanal coffee around the clock. We also visited the rooftop terrace, which provided some lovely views. Finally, there’s a gym available for those who want to maintain their fitness routine.

The Hermitage, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel

1

Best Historic. The Hermitage is all about heritage. From the moment we arrived, we were instantly captivated by the grandeur of the Art Deco building. It was constructed in 1923 and used to be the site of Bung Karno University. Even after its plush makeover, the hotel still has the colonial architecture while creating a luxurious atmosphere. It’s no surprise that it’s recognized as Jakarta’s first luxury heritage hotel.

While there were many rooms to choose from, in the end, we picked the Executive Terrace Double Room. The private terrace, which overlooked a serene, tree-lined street in Menteng, was the highlight for us. In fact, we always spent our morning there with a cup of coffee. The separate living area, adorned with a chandelier, contributed to the room’s spaciousness and elegance.

We didn’t have to travel far for food as the on-site 1928 Restaurant provided us with delicious international cuisine. If you need some refreshing drinks, head to the La Vue Bar. Better yet, the hotel lounge offers a fine selection of wine and cigars. Also, don’t forget to make a splash in the pool! The hotel’s services were exceptional as well. The 24-hour front desk was always ready to assist, offering everything from airport shuttles and car rentals to concierge services.

Our Verdict!

While each of the boutique hotels above has something unique to offer, choosing the right one can still be a bit tricky. To make it easier for you, we’ve categorized them based on the following criteria.

Where to Stay in Jakarta

As the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta has a wide range of neighborhoods, each with its own charm and attractions. However, you can’t go wrong with Central Jakarta, the beating heart of the city. Staying in areas like Thamrin and Sudirman will put you within moments of the city’s iconic landmarks and fancy shopping malls. There’s also Menteng, an upscale neighborhood that features colonial-era architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a great choice for travelers looking for a quieter stay.

Then, there’s South Jakarta, which is generally known to be the “luxurious” part of the city. It’s home to Kebayoran Baru, an affluent residential area with wide boulevards, parks, and (again) shopping malls. It has a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the city center. There’s also Kemang, a trendy neighborhood popular with expats and young Jakartans. You should stay here if you want to experience the lively nightlife.

Finally, you can also consider staying in Jakarta Barat. It’s home to Kota Tua, which is the historic heart of Jakarta. Here, you’ll find Dutch colonial architecture and museums. It’s a great choice for history buffs and those seeking a cultural experience. But if you’re a budget-minded traveler, you may want to stay in Grogol instead. This area offers more affordable accommodations and good access to public transportation.
