M Hotel
11
What does the M of M Hotel stand for? Is it “modest,” “memorable,” or something else? To be brutally honest, nobody knows, but if it was up to us, it would be “magnificent.” First, let’s talk about the hotel’s magnificent location. It took us only a short two-minute walk to reach the Blok M MRT Station. Talk about convenience!
As a cheap hotel in Jakarta, we have to admit that our Standard Room is on the smaller side. However, we still had everything we wanted. Cozy queen-sized bed? Check! In-room safe? Check! If you don’t mind spending a tiny bit more, you can even book the Deluxe Plus Room, which comes with an Android TV with Netflix.
However, our stay went from good to great thanks to the free breakfast buffet. From pastries to local dishes, it had everything. We also enjoyed the free-flow coffee machine in the lobby. Plus, we were able to have a massage in the comfort of our room.

D’Bamboo Suites

D’Bamboo Suites is one of the best places to have a refreshing break from Jakarta’s usual hustle and bustle. The hotel’s focus on tranquility really struck a chord with us. Despite that, we still had convenient access to both MRT and Trans Jakarta Busway, which made getting around a breeze without the need for taxis.
For our stay, we chose the Deluxe Room, and it turned out to be a comfortable and tidy space. Although the décor was quite simple, it had everything we needed for a restful night. We especially liked the skyscraper poster, which almost compensated for the absence of a balcony. However, for those who value outdoor space, feel free to book the Executive Room.
Does the hotel have a hangout spot? Yes! D’Sky Bistro, the rooftop restaurant, offers breathtaking views of the Jakarta skyline. We also visited D’Escape Room on the 3rd floor, which was a fantastic place for socializing. For those wanting to stay active, visit the D’Bamboo Gym.

Your stay in Jakarta won’t be complete without spending a night in the Golden Triangle of South Jakarta. At favehotel Gatot Subroto, you’ll spend your nights surrounded by stunning skyscrapers! Personally, we loved the location a lot as we were close to major spots like Kuningan City Mall. It even took us only 20 minutes to reach Blok M.
Furthermore, our room met our basic needs. We had an air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, consistently fast Wi-Fi, and a safe. We also appreciate the extra amenities like the hot power showers and complimentary toiletries.
Being a budget hotel, favehotel doesn’t boast many amenities. However, we do appreciate the service. The 24-hour room service was great for our late-night cravings, and the front desk was always available to assist us. We were especially impressed with their readiness to help with luggage storage, which made our stay much smoother.

POP! Hotel Kemang

When it comes to standing out, POP! Hotel Kemang sure knows a trick or two. Despite being a cheap hotel in Jakarta, it’s highly popular and a favorite among many travelers. One of the main reasons is its location, which is in Kemang. It’s a hotspot for young locals and expats, and we were instantly immersed in the vibrant atmosphere. We could easily find restaurants, cafes, and entertainment options. Additionally, the hotel’s location near a bus stop, just a minute’s walk away, made navigating the city a breeze.
The rooms here are called POP! Rooms, and all of them are straightforward yet functional. Embodying the “popping color” theme the hotel is known for, our space was dominated by a bright green hue. While it may not appeal to everyone, we found it quite uplifting. We also found the semi-circle bathroom to be unique, though compact. What’s more, the hotel also offers smoking POP! Rooms.
Moreover, the hotel has some handy communal areas. There’s a lively lobby lounge with a dining area as well as a meeting room for 30, which can be super beneficial for business travelers.

YELLO Hotel Harmoni

Best Mall Access. The amount of shopping malls in Jakarta is so high that no matter where you go, you’ll easily spot one. So, if you’re into shopping and eager to explore local brands, we highly recommend the YELLO Hotel Harmoni. That’s because it shares a building with the HXC Shopping Mall. Being close to Gambir train station was also a major advantage for us, making it simple to get around Jakarta.
Our room, the Yello Room, had a unique artsy vibe, with colorful wall art that added character. We appreciated how well-maintained the room was and were amazed by the stunning view of Monas from our window. While it wasn’t overly luxurious, it had all the standard amenities we expected, including free Wi-Fi and a coffee maker.
If you’re anything like us, you’ll appreciate the hotel’s 24/7 restaurant. Hunger knows no time! In addition to that, there’s also a fitness center, meeting rooms, and a lounge with Xbox and foosball.

The Swiss-Belinn Wahid Hasyim is a chic, 3-star hotel in the heart of Jakarta’s vibrant city center. We really enjoyed the location, as we had easy access to major business districts and a wide array of shopping and dining options. Being close to major transportation hubs like the airport railway station and Gambir train station also makes the hotel even more appealing for both business and leisure travelers.
The entire hotel is modern and well-furnished. Our room was decorated with a minimalist design and came equipped with all the essentials, including a cozy queen-sized bed, a mini-fridge, a safe, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. The in-room dining service was great for our late-night cravings.
For a laid-back dining experience, we suggest visiting the Bang Bang Restaurant and Bar. The restaurant features a diverse menu worth every penny. And for the ultimate relaxation, visit the on-site spa.

Up next is Park 5 Simatupang, a stunning budget hotel in South Jakarta. The hotel’s prime location was a significant advantage for us, providing easy access to public transportation through the nearby Fatmawati MRT Station and close proximity to the Jakarta Outer Ring Road. This made navigating the city effortless.
Our Standard Double Room was beautifully designed with a modern touch and a bright, airy ambiance. We also liked the lovely wood accents, which created a cozy and welcoming environment. Our room was well-equipped with all the necessities, including a TV, safe, and toiletries. We particularly enjoyed the balcony, which provided nice views of the surrounding area.

1O1 URBAN Jakarta Thamrin

Best Location. Looking for a centrally located hotel with easy transportation access? Look no further than Central Jakarta’s 1O1 URBAN Jakarta Thamrin. The hotel’s location is ideal, providing easy access to many of the city’s main attractions. We also loved exploring Sarinah, Jakarta’s first skyscraper. It took us only less than 10 minutes from the hotel, and this place has been revamped into a modern department store filled with a variety of boutique shops and dining options.
The rooms at 1O1 Urban Hotel are straightforward yet clean and comfortable, with all the essential amenities. While the standard rooms are quite satisfactory, if you want something extra, we suggest treating yourself to a suite for breathtaking city views. Room service is available around the clock, and we found the service during our stay to be top-notch.
A standout feature of our visit was the complimentary breakfast, served in a laid-back restaurant. The heart of the hotel, though is the rooftop Langit Seduh. This rooftop cafe even comes with a refreshing pool.
“Given its convenient location near key attractions and comfortable accommodations, we think 1O1 URBAN has the potential to quickly become a top-rated hotel in the city.”

Tuju Arteri Pods

Best for Solo Travelers. On one of our previous trips to Jakarta, we found a very interesting, budget-friendly hotel in the form of Tuju Arteri Pods. Set in the lively Pondok Indah neighborhood, it’s near both Pondok Indah Mall and Gandaria City, making it easy to explore the local shopping and dining options. However, we did notice that the hotel can get quite crowded, so it’s best to book in advance.
This hotel offers single-sex sleeping capsules with wood paneling, which creates a cozy and private vibe. The capsule was big enough for us to sleep comfortably. We also appreciated how clean the shared bathroom was. The hotel also serves as a co-working space, making it perfect for backpackers who need to get some work done while traveling.
We especially enjoyed the shared kitchen and the rooftop terrace, which provided beautiful views of the city. In fact, the rooftop terrace is probably the best spot to enjoy your dinner. These communal areas were a fantastic way to meet other travelers and share tips as well.

Whiz Hotel Cikini Jakarta

Including the Whiz Hotel Cikini Jakarta is a must. This hotel has everything it needs to be one of the best cheap hotels in the city. First, let’s talk about the location. Nestled in the Cikini district, we were just a stone’s throw away from live music venues, trendy bars, and the famous Selamat Datang Monument. Ismail Marzuki Park was only a short walk away, and the luxurious and arguably the most popular mall in the city, Grand Indonesia, was also close by.
For our stay, we booked the Superior Double Room. It was both modern and minimalist, with great lighting that created an airy feel. We especially loved the view from our window. Some rooms even offer views of the National Monument, and the option for connecting rooms makes this hotel a great choice for families.
Furthermore, this hotel serves a delightful breakfast buffet that includes both local and international dishes. Room service is also an option, allowing us to enjoy our meals in the comfort of our room. Additionally, there’s also a function room for meetings.

Best Value for Money. Rounding up the list is the Verse Lite Hotel Gajah Mada. While there are so many amazing budget hotels in Jakarta, this one hits all the right notes. This hotel, with a touch of Japanese design, is in the Gambir neighborhood. It’s only a short walk away from famous sites like the Jakarta National Monument and Istiqlal Grand Mosque. We even went to Lapangan Banteng Park easily, where we tried delicious street food and enjoyed a relaxing picnic.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a complimentary drink of coffee and tea in the lobby. That, along with the great service, set the tone for our stay. Our King Room was unexpectedly spacious, featuring a comfortable king-sized bed and a clean bathroom. We also loved how the large window let in plenty of natural light during the day.
To enhance our experience, the hotel also provided a complimentary breakfast buffet and convenient transfers to the train station. We particularly enjoyed the 24-hour coffee shop, which allowed us to relax at any hour.

For budget travelers, Central Jakarta is arguably the best area. Despite being a central location, you’ll easily find a wide variety of hotels, including budget ones, especially around Thamrin. It also offers great access to public transportation, including the MRT, LRT, and TransJakarta buses. Staying here means you’ll be able to easily access key attractions like Monas and the National Museum.
Similarly, there’s West Jakarta. This area also offers a wide range of accommodations, from affordable guesthouses to hotels, especially when compared to other upscale areas. It’s one of the best areas in Jakarta for you to sample local eateries and street food stalls.
